Selina, Countess of Huntingdon by Faith Cook

How long is Selina, Countess of Huntingdon?

This in-depth biography is 422 pages plus appendices.

How easy is Selina, Countess of Huntingdon to read?

Well defined chapters and a sensible writing style make this book straightforward to read. The length will challenge some though, such as myself.

Quotes from eighteenth century writings aren’t always easy to understand but are far from impossible to interpret.

What will I get out of reading Selina, Countess of Huntingdon?

Selina Hastings (1707-1791) was the Countess of Huntingdon for most of the eighteenth century. She was dramatically and miraculously converted to the Christian faith in her early thirties, and immediately sought to use her wealth and influence to spread the gospel throughout the UK and Ireland.

Faith Cook’s fantastic biography tells Selina’s remarkable story. The Countess was an exceptionally godly lady from whom we could all learn a lot, and her impact on British history for the sake of the gospel is immense. The book's tagline is: 'Her Pivotal Role in the Eighteenth Century Evangelical Awakening.'

Is Selina, Countess of Huntingdon good?

I have not had the pleasure of reading Faith Cook’s other works, but I am told she is an outstanding biographer, and this book is no different. Cook is precise, unbiased, and enthusiastic in her treatment of Selina’s life.

Selina’s life itself is inspiring. Her desire to remain anonymous means she often remains under the radar, but she is a wonderful godly character who deserves to be read about because she sets such an impressive example of Christian service.

If you are looking for an inspirational Christian lady to learn from, or you want to know all about the work of God in England during the eighteenth century, then this book will certainly scratch that itch.
